OB

The BVRMC First Embrace Obstetrics Department (OB) delivers more than 300 babies per year. Families have access to obstetrical services from the diagnosis of pregnancy through the two-day follow up visit (after delivery). In person classes offered include sibling class, breastfeeding class, and Prepared Childbirth Class; all taught by our Lactation Consultant, Tracy Terry. We do offer an online Prepared Childbirth class as well. The department has 8 LDRP suites (labor, delivery, recovery & postpartum), 7 of which have whirlpool tubs while the 8th has a walk in shower. The doctors and nurses work together to provide individualized care. The staff is very attentive to families while providing information prior to discharge to prepare families to care for their newborns with confidence. Watch Me Grow, a free program, is held the first Monday of every month that provides families an opportunity to get the baby weighed, learn about developmental milestones, and ask questions in a comfortable setting. The OB Health Secretaries are Certified Nurse’s Assistance.

Specializations, Certifications, and Credentials:

The OB department is proud to say the staff includes an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). Many staff have attained Inpatient OB certification (RNC-OB), External Fetal Monitoring certification (EFM-C), Child Passenger Safety Technicians (car seats), and Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC). All nurses have Neonatal Resuscitation Program training every two years. Two staff are trained in care of families experiencing pregnancy or infant loss.
